Midweek Roundup

Two weeks later, and we are finally back in NYC!!! I didn’t do a Roundup this past weekend because I figured no one wanted to see more pictures of Miller and I with our friends in California. But, I wanted to give a quick little update from our trip. Miller had meetings with lots of different ad agencies, movie studios, and magazines. The purpose of these meetings is for him to meet people face to face, show his portfolio, and to potentially gain new clients. These meetings could pay off in 5 months, or it could be 5 years, but it is very important to go ahead and get Miller’s name out to as many people as possible and “plant some seeds.” All of the meetings went very well and a few went GREAT – we even managed to leave LA with an assignment – I can’t say what it is, but really big things could potentially come from it.

While I can appreciate lots of things about California -especially the clean air, super fresh food, the mountains, greenery, and landscaping – I am totally not a California person. The main thing I don’t like is all of the time you have to spend in the car. It sometimes took us 2 hours to go 20 miles – completely wears me out. One of my favorite things about New York City is that it’s a walkable city.  It just feels SO great to be back to this dirty, raw, energetic, overcrowded, fishbowl of a city.

One thing I really appreciated about California was going to see the house where “Father of the Bride” was filmed…it is one of my all time favorite movies!

Other news…Miller found that that one of his portraits was chosen to go into American Photography 28, a book that contains all of the best photos of 2011. It is a huge honor to be included in a book with the best photographers in the world. The judges are from some of the industries top magazines, including Time, The New York Times Magazine, Details, and Newsweek. This portrait of our friend Charles was chosen.

Miller was chosen to be in this book a few years ago, the American Photography 25 edition, and it was what led to us meeting Miller’s agent. These photos of two mormon missionaries are what made it….it’s funny that these two boys have NO idea what a huge part they played in Miller’s career taking off and us being able to move here so soon.

And here are a few recent photos Miller took of Eric Kandel for the Chronicle Review – Eric is a nobel prize winner and currently a professor at Columbia. These were my favorites from the shoot!
